SECTION 1: ABOUT LITTLE BABY GRAINS
1. How different are the grains sold by Little Baby Grains and the rice that we eat?
Little Baby Grains uses organic and natural grains with a softer texture and high nutritional value. Our rice is specially selected in terms of quality and suitability for our little ones' delicate tummies. For instance, the premium, natural white rice which is used in Little Baby Grains' PREMIUM range has 1.5 times the amount of Vitamin B compared to average white rice. Vitamin B1 is known to play a fundamental role in energy metabolism. (Source: Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI))
2. What are the benefits of the products sold by Little Baby Grains?
Each of the products sold by Little Baby Grains have their respective nutritional benefits for your babies and toddlers.
The white and red rice in the PREMIUM range are premium in nature as they are naturally sweet tasting, being planted in the mountainous regions of Borneo without the use of pesticides. These grains are also limited in production. Additionally, the white rice is recognised as a good source of protein (Source: MARDI Publication, 2014).
The BASIC range uses natural medium grain white rice, which has a naturally sweet taste as well, and is fluffier. BASIC is also a more affordable option overall. Our BASIC range also allows your little one to consume the superfood quinoa before 1 year old, in the form of quinoa flakes! This means that your little one can now receive a good source of protein even at a young age, while ensuring that it is soft enough for him to chew and digest!
Our pasta is organic and gluten-free, thus making it suitable for babies with allergies too.
For products which are segregated by age, please take care to follow the recommended age group as younger babies may not be able to tolerate certain wholegrains which are harder.
3. Why should I choose Little Baby Grains?
We use organic and natural ingredients. We advocate clean and wholesome foods. We only select quality ingredients which are either organic or natural.
We're passionate about helping you! From the moment your baby starts solids, we are there for you. Recipes, instructions and guides are provided. As our esteemed LBG Mummy (or Daddy), you will receive continuous help and support from us via our social media channels. We believe in nurturing community and are strongly committed to an ethical way of doing business. Where possible, we source our ingredients from local farmers and we only work with ethical partners.
SECTION 2: ABOUT OUR GRAINS
1. Where are the grains sourced from?
The grains are sourced both locally and overseas, from Malaysia, Vietnam, PRC and Bolivia. The country of origin is also stated on the packaging.
2. Does Little Baby Grains have organic certificates?
Our organic certifications are owned by our importer. We are happy to share them with you upon request
3. Does it mean that I can feed my baby these products without the need to add vegetables or meat?
No, it is important to consume the grains as PART of a balanced diet in order to obtain good overall nutrition. This means that a good diet of vegetables and protein is necessary in addition to our products.
4. My baby is 1 year old and I noticed that there are many choices. Which should I choose?
For a recommendation on which products to get, please take our quiz!
5. I heard that quinoa is highly nutritious. Why can't I give it to my baby before he is 1 year old?
Quinoa is also called a superfood because it is a good source of many nutrients, including quality protein, dietary fibre, polyunsaturated fats and minerals. Little Baby Grains however recommends serving whole quinoa grains to babies above 1 year old, as younger babies may find it difficult to digest quinoa. We have recently launched a new product line-up, known as the BASIC range. The BASIC range now allows your little one to consume the superfood quinoa before 1 year old, in the form of quinoa flakes!
6. Can my family eat the same grains as my 1-year-old?
Yes! Since the grains are generally more nutritious than our everyday white rice, it is certainly beneficial for your family to eat the same grains as your 1-year-old toddler. The combination of wholegrains is definitely a healthier choice than plain white rice.
7. Are there cooking instructions?
Yes! Each product (grains and pasta) comes with cooking instructions including the amount of water to use and the cooking duration. If you purchase the grains from the PREMIUM range, we provide recipes on each label! If you purchase the Starter Kits, each Kit comes with an additional 8 recipe cards. These recipes are different from the recipes in the individual packs from the PREMIUM range.
8. How can I cook the grains?
Our grains can be cooked on a stovetop, in a slow cooker, rice cooker, or in any baby food cookers, such as Beaba Babycook, etc.
9. How much water should I put in?
For 1 spoonful of the grains, add 3-4 spoons full of water into the pot to make rice. Add 1-2 more spoons full to make porridge instead.
For grains that are high in fibre (such as red rice, quinoa and buckwheat), you can soak the grains for 15-30 minutes in water before cooking them. This will speed up the cooking time.
10. Do I need to soak the rice before cooking?
Soaking is not necessary, however, if you cooking the grains as rice instead of porridge, soaking is recommended to speed up the cooking process especially for Step 4 Nutri-Colour and Step 5 Q-Junior.
11. Do I need to blend or puree the grains before giving it to my baby?
Pureeing is recommended for ages 6-9 months. For 9 months and above, the grains are generally soft enough without the additional need for blending or milling. However, parents are advised to observe their babies' own development pace as some babies may require more assistance in chewing their solids. In such cases, it is recommended to puree the cooked grains together with their baby's vegetables, fruits or meat.
12. Can I puree the grains along with my baby's vegetables and meat, then freeze it for the week?
Generally, freezing rice porridge is not recommended due to concerns on colic (wind). You can instead freeze the puréed vegetables and meat but cook the rice porridge on a daily basis. The frozen puree can then be added to the rice porridge.
13. I'm a busy parent so I don't have time to cook my baby's porridge before I leave for work. What should I do?
You can cook your baby's porridge in a slow cooker before going to bed the night before. Simply set the slow cooker mode to "Low" heat and let it cook overnight.
14. How long can I keep the grains for?
The expiry date is written on our rice packs, however, as a general rule of thumb, you can keep the grains for up to 12 months in the refrigerator.
15. Do I need to keep my unopened grains in the fridge?
Yes, all grains both opened or unopened should be stored in the refrigerator to preserve freshness and prevent contamination by bugs.
16. What is the difference between the PREMIUM and the BASIC range?
The difference between the PREMIUM and the BASIC range is in the
grain type, as well as the formulation for the different products.
The white and red rice in the PREMIUM range are premium in nature as they are naturally sweet tasting, being planted in the mountainous regions of Borneo without the use of pesticides. These grains are also limited in production.
BASIC uses natural medium grain white rice, which is more widely available. Nevertheless, it has a naturally sweet taste as well, and is fluffier. BASIC is also a more affordable option overall.
17. Is the BASIC range less nutritious compared to the PREMIUM range?
Nutritionally, each range has their respective strengths. For instance,
Fresh Start has a higher quantity of dietary fibre compared to Let's
Eat, whereas Let's Chew has a higher quantity of protein compared
to Junior Nutri-Colour.
18. Which product should my baby choose – PREMIUM or BASIC?
Let your baby try the different products and they will indicate their
preference accordingly. With the introduction of BASIC to our
product line-up, we are now providing our #LBGMummies with a
variety of excellent options for their little ones!
SECTION 3: ABOUT OUR NOODLES
1. What are the types of noodles available?
We have various types of noodles ranging from noodles for your baby to pasta and ramen for kids.
2. Are the noodles organic?
Our pasta is organic and gluten-free, whereas our baby noodles and ramen both contain natural and organic ingredients. Also, we have taken great care to ensure that there are no preservatives, no artificial flavours or artificial colours in all our noodles. Only premium, 100% all-natural ingredients are used to make these noodles.
3. What are the benefits of your noodles?
Pasta: Our pasta is not only organic, but also gluten-free. Gluten-free means that more babies have access to superior foods, even those who have allergies or are unable to take gluten. Additionally, gluten-free means that your baby's gut health is cared for!
Noodles: Besides being specially formulated and made from 100% natural ingredients, our noodles are made in small batches to preserve the quality and freshness. Manufactured in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility in accordance with HACCP requirements for food safety, each noodle piece is oven dried and individually packed and sealed to ensure a hygienic manufacturing process. Additionally, we use organic Australian salt, which is one of the purest, highest quality pollution-free fine salt in the world. This salt naturally contains calcium and magnesium and is organically accredited by the BFA, Australia's leading accreditation body. This salt is also environmentally friendly as the production of this salt emits 6 times less carbon dioxide
4. But....I thought kids should not eat foods with salt. Is it OK for the noodles to contain salt?
Salt contains sodium, which is an essential mineral. Humans can't live without sodium, as we need it to transmit nerve, contract and relax muscle fibers, and maintain a proper fluid balance. (Source: Harvard Health Publishing)
Since sodium is present in most natural foods like rice, vegetables and meat, as well as processed foods like biscuits and bread, parents are advised not to add anymore salt into their children's meals when cooking for them.
Salt is a necessary ingredient in the production of noodles to provide the right texture and to bind the noodles. We use a very minimal amount of salt in our noodles - 0.5% for the baby noodles and 1.5% in the ramen. Also, we have taken care to ensure that this salt is pollution-free as it is sourced from an untouched lake (sea salt could be polluted with microplastics) and is of the highest quality.
Even though we have used a small, almost negligible quantity, as always, we continuously uphold our ethics and the mandate entrusted to us by our LBG Mummies and Daddies. This means ensuring that our ingredients are of a high quality and secondly, declaring honestly on our ingredient list.
5. If the ramen already contains vegetables, does it mean that I don't need to add anymore vegetables into the noodles?
You will still need to add in vegetables and meat to ensure a balanced and healthy diet into your child's noodles. This is because we need a good serving of vegetables daily in order to obtain the necessary fibre and nutrients. Our ramen is aimed at increasing the opportunities for your child to obtain their necessary daily intake of nutrients! Oh, and it's super yummy too!
6. Since the ramen is meant for kids, what age can my baby start eating the ramen?
As long as your baby can chew well, is consuming finger foods well and has transitioned to porridge without blending already, you can let your baby try out the ramen!
7. I just bought 2 boxes of beetroot noodles. Why does the noodle colour in each box look different?
The beautiful colours of Little Baby Grains' ramen come from 100% natural vegetables, as such, don't worry! It is perfectly normal for the noodles to have colour variations.
