3-Day Rule | Peraturan 3 Hari

3-Day Rule | Peraturan 3 Hari

Everyone knows about the 3-Day Rule when it comes to introducing solids to your baby. Right? NOT TRUE. There are actually many Mummies who have never heard of the 3-day rule when starting solids!

Siapa yang tak pernah dengar pasal “3-Day Rule”, kan? EH, TAK BENAR!

What is the 3-Day Rule?

The 3-Day Rule is not really a rule, but a guideline for parents when introducing solids to their babies.

“Parents should introduce solids gradually, one at a time, waiting at least three days after each new food.”

Here’s an example of how your little one’s food diary at 6 months would look like when starting solids:

Why should I introduce solids over a 3-day interval?

By introducing new types of food over 3 days, this allows you time to observe your baby’s reaction to each type of food. You are also encouraged to keep a food diary. As you know…after becoming a mother, our memories are not what they were. 😉

What do I need to observe?

Parents should observe their baby’s reaction for the following:

  • Is baby showing signs of allergy such as rashes or red skin?

  • Is baby showing signs of itchiness or difficulty in breathing?

  • Is your baby uncomfortable and keeps crying, or is fussier after food?

  • Is your baby experiencing a bloated stomach or gas (wind)?

  • Is your baby having diarrhea or vomiting?

These are all signs that the new food is probably unsuitable for your little one and parents should stop giving the food to your baby immediately.

If my baby’s poo changes colour, does it mean he’s allergic to the food?

Changes in poo colour are normal when you start introducing solids to baby. You will probably also start noticing a strong “not-so-pleasant” odour in baby’s poo, especially if he has been exclusively breastfed, but this does not mean that your baby is allergic to the food.

Firm / hard stools, however, are a symptom of possible constipation and it is recommended to stop the offending foods.

What should I do if I suspect my baby is allergic to a certain food?

Stop the possibly offending food and steer clear for the next 3 - 5 days by giving baby foods which you know he is not allergic to. It is also best to wait till the allergy symptoms, such as rashes, disappear, before introducing other new foods.

If the allergy is serious, such as difficulty in breathing, swollen face, etc. please bring baby to the paediatrician immediately!

For mild allergies, it is a good idea to wait a few more months, say 1 - 2 months, before trying to introduce the offending food to your baby again. There is no harm in waiting longer, so if you introduce something to your baby at 6 months and he is allergic to it, you could even wait till he is 1 year old before reintroducing the food again.

Kan kita tahu….lepas jadi ibu, memori Mummies ni memang tak setajam dulu 😉

Apakah patut saya buat sekiranya saya rasa anak mengalami alahan makanan?
